Why You’ll Almost Always Find Me at the Winter Garden Farmers Market

If you know me outside of real estate, you probably know two things about me.

I love to cook, and I love a good conversation.

The funny thing is, one of my favorite places combines both of those passions perfectly: the Winter Garden Farmers Market.

For me, a farmers market isn’t just a place to buy produce. It’s where inspiration happens.

Some people create vision boards for their goals and dreams. My version of a vision board looks a little different. I walk through the market asking myself one simple question:

“What am I making for dinner tonight?”

After cooking for many years, it’s easy to fall into the routine of making the same meals over and over. We all have our favorites, but sometimes they stop being exciting. That’s why I enjoy wandering through the farmers market without a plan.

All it takes is one ingredient.

Maybe it’s a beautiful display of colorful bell peppers.

Suddenly I’m thinking about stuffed peppers.

A few booths later I spot fresh herbs that would be perfect in the filling. Then I find some locally grown tomatoes, fresh garlic, and maybe a loaf of artisan bread. Before I know it, dinner has completely planned itself.

That’s what I love most about cooking with fresh ingredients.

They inspire creativity.

The same thing happens when I visit a great butcher shop or an artisan bakery. Although, if I’m being honest, the bakery is a little dangerous for me. I have a serious sweet tooth, and it’s very difficult to walk past fresh pastries without convincing myself I “deserve just one.”

Sometimes that plan works.

Sometimes it doesn’t.

Beyond the food, though, I genuinely enjoy the people.

If you’ve ever run into me at the farmers market—or honestly, just about any grocery store—you’ve probably noticed I have a habit of talking to people.

My friends give me a hard time about it.

They’ll tell you that if we make eye contact, there’s a pretty good chance I’m going to say hello. Usually it’s just a quick conversation, maybe a joke or two, and then we’re both on our way.

I’ve always believed communities become stronger when people actually talk to one another.

It’s one of the reasons I enjoy living and working here in Central Florida.

As I’ve gotten older, I’ve also become more conscious about what I eat.

Keeping fresh fruits and vegetables around the house makes it much easier to make healthier choices. When quality ingredients are already in the refrigerator, I’m much less likely to reach for processed snacks or order takeout simply because it’s convenient.

The farmers market has become part of that routine.

There are always a few things that end up in my shopping bag.

Bell peppers are probably at the top of the list. They’re incredibly versatile, and I usually find better prices and better quality than I would at many traditional grocery stores.

If I’m feeling adventurous, I’ll browse the specialty vendors looking for a new hot sauce, homemade seasoning blend, fresh honey, locally roasted coffee, or maybe even a protein I’ve never cooked before.

One week I might discover a new cheese.

The next week it could be handmade pasta.

I’ve even had my kitchen knives sharpened while I shopped, which is one of those little conveniences that makes the whole experience even more enjoyable.

That’s the beauty of a great farmers market.

You never know what you’re going to discover.

One of my favorite places to spend a Saturday morning is the award-winning Winter Garden Farmers Market in historic Downtown Winter Garden. It’s more than a place to shop. It’s a gathering place where neighbors catch up, visitors explore local businesses, musicians perform, and small business owners showcase products they’ve poured their hearts into creating.

I think every community benefits from having places like this.

Whether you leave with fresh produce, homemade salsa, fresh flowers, artisan bread, or simply a smile after talking with someone new, you’ve experienced something that can’t be replicated by clicking “Add to Cart.”

So now I’m curious.

What’s the one thing you never leave a farmers market without?

For me, it’s almost always bell peppers.

Everything else is just dinner waiting to happen.
